Allergy Immunotherapy Q & A

We have known for a long time that we can cheat our immune system to believe we are not allergic anymore. For example, if you and I would be allergic to bananas, it would be unlikely that we’d have a reaction of any kind if we would eat the tiniest piece of the banana. If we continue to do this every single day, and increase the size of the piece we eat, we could eventually eat the whole banana without a problem… we have cheated our immune system to make it believe we are not allergic to bananas; WE ARE CURED!

The immune system protects us from all types of illnesses. When those resources are being used up needlessly to fight allergens, overall health can be negatively impacted.

Weight gain, occurrences of cold and flu, hormonal imbalance and even higher rates of some cancers have all been associated with a weakened immune system.

Precision allergy testing and customized treatment could help patients say goodbye to allergies for good.

Until recently, how we did this for inhalants (things you breath, like pollen, dust , dog and cat allergies, etc.), was to do allergy tests, send the results to the lab that would fabricate a medication containing a tiny amount of what you are allergic to and we’d give you a shot every week for 2 to 4 years. This is pretty involved and time consuming, and most of our patients felt a lot better after 3 or 4 months and quit. They were better, but not cured… (they still could not eat the whole banana).

Now, it comes in the form of drops under the tongue, done at home, and is a lot easier for our patients. This kind of treatment decreases allergy symptoms rapidly for many people with allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma, conjunctivitis (eye allergy) etc.

Allergy immunotherapy decreases sensitivity to allergens and often leads to lasting relief of allergy symptoms even after treatment is stopped. This makes it a cost-effective, beneficial treatment approach for many people.

Nearly all patients that participate fully in this program, report a complete remission of allergic symptoms by the end of their treatment.

It is often asked who can benefit from Allergy Immunotherapy. Both children and adults can receive allergy treatment, however, it is not typically recommended for children under age five. This is due to the difficulties younger children may have in cooperating with the program and in articulating any adverse symptoms they may be experiencing.

We offer the safest and most advanced treatments to our patients, and this program is covered by most insurance plans.

If you suffer from allergies, give us call to schedule a consultation where we can make an evaluation and institute a treatment plan.
